Your time onboard can be spent relaxing and/or exploring the beauty of Moreton Island , the famous Tangalooma shipwrecks and enjoying the sunsets as we customise an adventurous and exciting itinerary. Due to the size of the Moreton bay marine park and its 360 islands, an abundance of marine wildlife inhabit these waters. From June – October each year the Southern Humpback whales migrate past Moreton Island on their way to Hervey Bay to give birth. On return they often spend time inside Moreton Bay to relax, play and give protection to their new calves. Whales, Bottlenose and Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, Dugongs, Green and Loggerhead turtles and the many species of Rays can be seen daily from the vessel without even getting wet. Fishing is popular as the bay supports a breeding ground for many fish species. The outer reefs and shoals offer bottom fishing for reef fish and trolling for pelagics which cruise and feed around the north end of the island. Have your catch of the day prepared for your dinner or maybe into some sushi or sashimi with a cocktail as you watch the sun set behind the Tangalooma wrecks and over the mainland. For the scuba divers the many different dive sites are awesome. Flinders Reef just to the north of the island supports more tropical fish species than the Great Barrier Reef . Other popular sites nearby include Hutchinsons Shoal, Smiths Rock, Hendersons Rock and Curtain Artificial Reef which is inside the bay and contains over 30 shipwrecks, trams and busses. Sand toboggan down the rolling dunes in the desert or try the more steep coastal sand dunes opposite the Tangalooma wrecks only meters from the waters edge. Island walks along any of the uninhabited white beaches and scenic bays, into the white sandy desert, up to Cape Moreton and its working lighthouse (which is Queenslands oldest operating lighthouse), or take a visit down to the Tangalooma resort. You can try fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving, para sailing or simply relax with your favourite beverage and book on the top deck and relax as the world passes you by, the options are endless. Safe protected anchorages close to the shoreline make for a calm pleasant night on the water which ensures you have an undisturbed sleep ready for the next day of adventure and discovery…. |
